West Zone Power Distribution Company (WZPDCL), a power supplier in the south-west, will save crores of rupees by supplying electricity. One of the company's two engineers does not seem to be spending this huge amount of money at one time to implement an innovative process. Apart from this, about half a lakh rupees will be saved every month only for data storage. This will reduce accidents in sub-centers. The company has already used that innovative process. According to WZPDCL sources, so far data from all 33/11 KV substations of the company had to be recorded manually. An engineer had to go to the centers and collect information. In addition, to turn on and off the substation lines, the person concerned had to stand in front of the high voltage line and turn it on and off - which is risky.
Debashish Pal, executive engineer of the company's system control and protection branch, and Kalyan Kumar Debnath, sub-divisional engineer, devised a new low-cost process to solve these problems. In order to prevent such accidents and save a huge amount of money.Innovative engineer Kalyan Kumar Debnath said, "I have been facing various problems for a long time in round-the-clock monitoring, control, digitization of data and safe operation of substations." To solve these problems, the existing electricity automation system in the current market has to be imported from abroad. The cost of imported equipment for such a substation is around Rs 1 crore 10 lakh.
I succeeded last year at one stage of research to take effective steps to reduce extra costs and prevent accidents. A system was developed with its own technology at a cost of only Rs 10 lakh, through which most of the benefits of the automation system of imported electricity can be availed. There will be no reliance on foreign engineers for future expansion.
How many operators can control and monitor the current state of the substation sitting at the computer of his desk. Since the whole process is digital, it will be possible to do it through computer. I have named this process, Low Cost Substation Automation System (SAS) With SCADA. On the other hand, centralized electricity meter readings had to be written manually in a log book. An engineer would go to the centers and record these readings. It was a waste of time and money. The implementation of this technology will save both money and time. He said that before the implementation of this idea, a person would spend about 175 hours a month just to save a logbook. Now it will take only 1 hour. On the other hand, considering the travel and human resources, the financial cost was about 54 thousand taka. After the implementation of the technology, the current cost is only two and a half to three thousand taka.
Another innovator, executive engineer Debashish Pal, said it was a landmark step for the power supply company. We used the technology at a substation as a pilot project. Success is 100 percent. The use of this technology in 6 more sub-centers is under process.Inventor Debashish said that many times the information stored in the logbook is lost and now it is not possible. On the one hand, costs have been reduced, on the other hand, the safety and control of employees has become easier. The Ministry of Power organizes ‘Innovative Project Exhibition’ every year. Among the 30 innovation ideas of 18 power related companies from all over the country took part in this exhibition. Our invention has achieved second place.
